I hestated before putting this warning on this chapter, but my wives and beta said I had to: Angst. It'll be okay. This is the Xieverse and I have spoken.

This is the first thing I've posted since the LJ "upgrade," and let me tell you, NOTHING WORKS. I apologize for failed LJ cuts, wonky formatting, and the myriad of "fixes" they've broken LJ with. I did the best I could.

Here in the US, it's Thanksgiving. So I'd like to say that I'm thankful for the contributions my beta, gmta_nz, has made to my fiction in general, and chapters 2 and 3 of Risks in particular. She has this way of simply raising one metaphorical eyebrow when she knows I'm committing acts of profound fictional cowardice, and then discreetly looking away while I slink off to fix them. It's really dazzling. I wish I had a beta for my life, not just my writing.
