How Do You....
How do you make a short entry and then click on it to read the extended entry? I write a lot, I'm thinking I shouldn't be doing that - does that mean my entire post is showing up on someone's friends page? Am I violating lj etiquette?

also, in answer to the question you posed in this LJ entry, let me open up my notebook with the cheat-sheet page.
to make an LJ cut (that's what the text that's actually hides your long entries is called), do this, except replace the parentheses with < and >:
(lj-cut text="whatever you want to call your cut line") next, type your entry and then close your cut (/lj-cut) remember to use the greater than & less than symbols rather than parentheses and do use the quote marks, too.
if you wanna show a link to another site, type this, again using <> rather than the () which I'll use for demo:
(a href=http://whatever the link is)then type the title you're giving your link here and close your link(/a)
also, you're only just NOW finding Plum's fic? She is sooo fabulous. Also, I enjoyed the entries I read in your LJ as I visited and I'm going to friend you if that's ok. ;-)

Well, yes, but I've also only just now started reading fan fic... her story "Framed" was the very first. Ever. Of any kind. I'm in a state of advanced shock.
Also, I enjoyed the entries I read in your LJ as I visited and I'm going to friend you if that's ok. ;-)
Yes, it is, and thank you for asking - should I ask people before I friend them? I'm treating it like a bookmark system, basically, if I see a journal I want to go back to I "friend" it. Should I ask first from now on?

Your kidding me! But what a great one to start with :D Plumsuede is the first and practically only author of multi-chaptered bj fic I've read more than one story of (I'm almost afraid to admit that since I'm surrounded by fic!whores). She was also one of my first friends in fandom and I didn't realize she was virtually as new as me to fandom at the time (I think we both found LJ around August 2004). She was writing her very first QaF fic called Everything at Once which followed events of S4 (during its hiatus) and it was beautifully crafted storytelling at its best. I don't consider reading Plum's longer QaF stories like watching the TV show at all, since they bring things to life that no teleplay ever possibly could and in the most entertaining and also emotionally intense way possible. I also trusted her love and respect for B/J (and virtually all the principal characters) implicitly from the start. There are many authors who show their obvious and total hatred for one or more of the main QaF characters and it's not something I get a perverse thrill out of.
PS I'd say 80-90% of people friend without asking if you don't have a FLocked journal but it's nice/cute when they do :)

Note how much time I spend looking for people to blame?

Well, I'm not that far behind you. I only found fanfic last fall. And lemme just tell you, my icon idoes not lie. I used to read actual books. Like 4-6 books per week. Granted, these weren't "War and Peace" or anything, just your basic mystery or chick-lit, but still.... actual books! If I've read 15 books since finding fanfic, I'd be surprised. I can name seven books for sure. *iz pathetic* *worse, does not care....*
You set the bar high by beginning with Plum's fic (because there is definitely plenty of crap!fic, out there, too). I started with Ethan and Myrna. As someone said to me, I think it was Paddies, "I feel kind of envious that you're just starting out and have all this incredible fic in front of you!" I know what she means. Oh! You've also got to, *got to* read
Oh, and no, it's not necessary to ask before friending. I do like to mention it when I friend someone though. And I like to know when someone friends me so I can be their friend, too. *is also a sap...*

oh! go to http://wwwtoolunaticsnwon.com and save to your hard drive ALL the fic. Myrna & violetjones are two fandom faves and the site is shutting down at the end of May. You definitely need to have these fics in your personal archive.
Rizabeau's fic - it's at her yahoo group
omg - so many more......
these are but a few of my faves. ok - will let you enjoy your sunday in peace.

Went there this morning. You are a bad bad evil horrible person. You and that bunny person should be ashamed.
I'm SUPPOSED to be running errands and doing the weekly marketing today. Because I was supposed to do it yesterday but didn't. Probably won't today.
I did walk my dogs, but so far that's the only thing I've done that doesn't involve livejournal. This is a tragedy.

Yes, I know! *rubs hands together gleefully!* IMO, there is absolutely zero reason on this earth why I shouldn't convert more people to my v.v. sekrit obsession. Nobody in my RL knows about this. Well, a couple people know I've 'watched" the show.. ahem! shyeah, right. Seen it once or twice (a day...)
