How Do You....
How do you make a short entry and then click on it to read the extended entry? I write a lot, I'm thinking I shouldn't be doing that - does that mean my entire post is showing up on someone's friends page? Am I violating lj etiquette?

I am ducking into your LJ to answer the question about [livejournal.com profile] justvisiting's website, since I responded on the comm but forgot we can't do that so Bunny deleted my answer. here's the link to her website: http://www.geocities.com/qafjv/justvisiting

also, in answer to the question you posed in this LJ entry, let me open up my notebook with the cheat-sheet page.

to make an LJ cut (that's what the text that's actually hides your long entries is called), do this, except replace the parentheses with < and >:

(lj-cut text="whatever you want to call your cut line") next, type your entry and then close your cut (/lj-cut) remember to use the greater than & less than symbols rather than parentheses and do use the quote marks, too.

if you wanna show a link to another site, type this, again using <> rather than the () which I'll use for demo:

(a href=http://whatever the link is)then type the title you're giving your link here and close your link(/a)

also, you're only just NOW finding Plum's fic? She is sooo fabulous. Also, I enjoyed the entries I read in your LJ as I visited and I'm going to friend you if that's ok. ;-)

Well, yes, but I've also only just now started reading fan fic... her story "Framed" was the very first. Ever. Of any kind. I'm in a state of advanced shock.

Yes, it is, and thank you for asking - should I ask people before I friend them? I'm treating it like a bookmark system, basically, if I see a journal I want to go back to I "friend" it. Should I ask first from now on?

Your kidding me! But what a great one to start with :D Plumsuede is the first and practically only author of multi-chaptered bj fic I've read more than one story of (I'm almost afraid to admit that since I'm surrounded by fic!whores). She was also one of my first friends in fandom and I didn't realize she was virtually as new as me to fandom at the time (I think we both found LJ around August 2004). She was writing her very first QaF fic called Everything at Once which followed events of S4 (during its hiatus) and it was beautifully crafted storytelling at its best. I don't consider reading Plum's longer QaF stories like watching the TV show at all, since they bring things to life that no teleplay ever possibly could and in the most entertaining and also emotionally intense way possible. I also trusted her love and respect for B/J (and virtually all the principal characters) implicitly from the start. There are many authors who show their obvious and total hatred for one or more of the main QaF characters and it's not something I get a perverse thrill out of.

PS I'd say 80-90% of people friend without asking if you don't have a FLocked journal but it's nice/cute when they do :)

Teary, I got a livejournal account in the first place to post a question to your journal - you are actually to blame for my downfall.

Note how much time I spend looking for people to blame?

Well, yes, but I've also only just now started reading fan fic... her story "Framed" was the very first. Ever. Of any kind. I'm in a state of advanced shock.

Well, I'm not that far behind you. I only found fanfic last fall. And lemme just tell you, my icon idoes not lie. I used to read actual books. Like 4-6 books per week. Granted, these weren't "War and Peace" or anything, just your basic mystery or chick-lit, but still.... actual books! If I've read 15 books since finding fanfic, I'd be surprised. I can name seven books for sure. *iz pathetic* *worse, does not care....*

You set the bar high by beginning with Plum's fic (because there is definitely plenty of crap!fic, out there, too). I started with Ethan and Myrna. As someone said to me, I think it was Paddies, "I feel kind of envious that you're just starting out and have all this incredible fic in front of you!" I know what she means. Oh! You've also got to, *got to* read [livejournal.com profile] luceononuro's fics. So beautiful. You're welcome to cruise my Memories if you'd like. I've also got a several page long word.doc completely filled with LJ addresses and other fic site addresses that I found and wanted to make sure I didn't forget. I learned the hard way how difficult it can be to re-find a site when you got there by clicking on a link and then clicking on another link and then clicking on another link. By then, you've read 3 new stories and who the hell remembers where you started? lol And [livejournal.com profile] quinn222's epistolic fic. She's a master manipper (like Teary) and makes an update every day. Begin with "Memos," then "Correspondence," (might be my fave) then "Adventures," then "Interludes," and now we're in "Changes." In other words, if you can't tell: Go to work, feed & walk your dogs, and then plop in front of your computer for the next six months and read read read!!! ;-DDD

Oh, and no, it's not necessary to ask before friending. I do like to mention it when I friend someone though. And I like to know when someone friends me so I can be their friend, too. *is also a sap...*

OK, I bookmarked both of those. I have a folder in my bookmarks where I save anything that i want to go back to, but it's all a chaotic jumble. In my ha ha spare time I'll have to organize it or something. LOL, that'll happen.

omg!! *iz boggling at all the fantastic authors awaiting you* just looked to see who I should tell you for sure not to miss:

[livejournal.com profile] jane2005 Such a wonderful writer. (you mustn't miss her current WIP, "Negation" and it's a painful one, so you gotta be on her friends list for access)

[livejournal.com profile] vamphile her just-finished "Brothers Keeper" is her best fic to date. And she's getting ready to start another one in that universe.

[livejournal.com profile] bigboobedcanuck fantastic fic, no longer writing QAF
[livejournal.com profile] ragingpixie also terrific fic, not much QAF anymore
[livejournal.com profile] msjudi lovely writing here, too
[livejournal.com profile] wren_kt7oz she's got 2 p-513 WIPS going, plus other fab fic
[livejournal.com profile] rand_alt new p-513 WIP, plus other great fic at his rrambles site
[livejournal.com profile] triciaqaf HOT! fucking fic
[livejournal.com profile] faramir_boromir new to the fandom and we are v.v. happy

Well, you know, I thought originally I'd read it was coming down at the end of April, but then I read something else that said the end of May. Anyway, yes. I've got them and will email them to you if you'll tell me your email addy. If you don't want to put it here (and I didn't bother to check your user info to see if it's in there, you can email off LJ at court1429 at yahoo dot com and I'll send'em right back to you.

Rizabeau's fic - it's at her yahoo group

as also here:

http://qaf-fic.com/atp/viewuser.php?uid=348

Must read "Songs in the Key of Love" series (3 huge parts)

London - his serial you can find here:

http://www.whatlovemeans.com/london.html

Morpheus - her site is rather confused:

http://www.morpheusqaf.com/index.html

Well, that's it!

Those stories haven't been presented at QAF_retread yet. Check this community, you will not regret.

Went there this morning. You are a bad bad evil horrible person. You and that bunny person should be ashamed.

I'm SUPPOSED to be running errands and doing the weekly marketing today. Because I was supposed to do it yesterday but didn't. Probably won't today.

I did walk my dogs, but so far that's the only thing I've done that doesn't involve livejournal. This is a tragedy.

Yes, I know! *rubs hands together gleefully!* IMO, there is absolutely zero reason on this earth why I shouldn't convert more people to my v.v. sekrit obsession. Nobody in my RL knows about this. Well, a couple people know I've 'watched" the show.. ahem! shyeah, right. Seen it once or twice (a day...)

omg, me, too! Ignorance is bliss, though, right? lol Really, though, from what I've observed, I think probably the pettest of peeves is a long post that's not behind a cut line. So....... yes, [livejournal.com profile] xie_xie_xie, you are in violation!! ;-D how do you say your screen name, by the way? Zee? She? X-ee? (I'm thinking that one's not gonna be right....)

Thank you both! I'll do that from now on so as not to torture anyone. It never really occurred to me that these entries would appear on a friends page, because well... how long do I get to keep saying I'm new here, but I'm new here! I'm very familiar with Blogger and Typepad and some other smaller programs and systems but this is the first time I've tried lj. It's quite different.

You're welcome! IF you wanted to, you can even go back to old posts and add the HTML coding before and after your entries and they will then be hidden behind a cut line. I found that out after doing the cuts incorrectly for the longest time. I finally set up a practice journal to try stuff out in first. *iz pathetic*

Jane's fics are at the top of the must read list....but I'm pretty sure I told you that already.

If you're serious about being limited for time (I mean more than the rest of us crackheads) I'd rec starting to follow at retread...while strolling back through our memories...there's so much fic out there that you could seriously get lost and [profile] _alicesprings and I refuse to pimp badfic and we're slowly working our way through everyone who's ever been worth reading.
