Making Even Right Wing Politics About the Fandom
Remember in Season 5 when the gang is discussing Prop 14 and Ben or someone says that Virginia has already passed a law like that?

Well, that's actually true, Virginia did, and a bunch of states joined it this last election. But let's just stick to Virginia.

Mary Cheney, the out lesbian right wing daughter of right wing vice-president (and v v bad shot) Dick Cheney, lives in Virginia with her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe.  And Mary's gonna have a baby.

And under the laws of Virginia, Heather can have no legal relationship of any kind with their child. None. She can't even adopt her or be left custody of her in Mary's will. According to Howard Bellweather Andrew Sullivan:
Mary Cheney is pregnant and will have a child with her wife of almost twenty years, Heather Poe. Except they live in Virginia which, with the enthusiastic backing of the Republicans, has declared itself homorein, and so no legal protections for Cheney's and Poe's marriage or custody of their child will be available. There is surely coming a point at which the sheer dissonance between what the GOP base believes and the way even the most conservative vice-president in modern times deals with the reality of his own family must surely prompt some kind of Republican adjustment.

I doubt such laws will stand much constitutional scrutiny, although I won't pretend to have looked at each of them, because they tend to make me burst into tears and consider wearing a pink sleeveless tank top and getting a gun (and I'd definitely be a better shot than Dead Eye Dick), but for the moment, Mary and Heather are fucked.

And given Mary's passionate support of the very administration that, to quote Sullivan again, "backed a federal constitutional amendment to strip the daughter of his vice-president of dignity, family and civil rights," I can't find it in my heart to give a fuck.
