PSA: BACK UP YOUR STUFF!
OH GOD.

My computer died yesterday, and it was brought back to life by a guy I found on Yelp. I did have a relatively recent backup, but MY GUSMAS AND GIFT EXCHANGE FICS WERE ON THERE AND I HAD NEVER BACKED THEM UP!

Plus now that I think about it, my most recent revisions to the next chapter of "Directions" were on there, too!

He told me my hard drive is on its last legs, but I have everything backed up safely now. I spent the day fighting the impulse to lie on my bed sucking my thumb, though.

Anyway... scary! Back up your stuff, bitches! Do it now!

*hugs and pets*

It really sucks when your computer decides to crap out on you, especially during something important. I've gotten to where I just save all my important stuff on jump drives, have tons of 'em.

Are you saying that you didn't have an external hard drive to back up your computer?
Gurl, you put yourself in danger!

I have a Western Digital My Book. I'm happy with it. There are lots of good, reliable brands so invest in one if you haven't already. I say this as I don't know how you got everything backed up safely now.
BTW - if you read reviews about different brands, keep in mind that some of the negative reviews may be written by people working for other companies so read several to get a good idea of other people's experiences.

Good luck.

I do. In fact, that's the one I have! But around two weeks ago (roughly), my computer said it couldn't locate the E drive to do my auto-backup, and I didn't have the time to look into it right that second. Although I assumed it was just a loose connection or something. So I knew I didn't have a backup for a couple of weeks, but I hadn't gotten around to figuring out the problem. The guy who got me back up and running said he was pretty sure the two things were related, and my computer is seeing the E drive now, and I ran a complete backup last night. :)

Thanks!

Great that you have your stuff all backed up before the drive is completely dead. I am getting so paranoid these days that I make backup on 2 separate external hard drives every week faithfully. Actually I have 3 external hard drives. One I use every week, the other 2 I alternate each week.

PS. I am so looking forward to your next "Directions" chapter :-)
