…Continuing… At this point, I now want to quote back to you the entire remaining part of the chapter, because it’s almost impossible for me to separate out components to comment on. But, rather than just let you re-read your own words, I’ll try to give you some of my own…
Justin’s contemplation of the events that led him to this moment was so beautiful to read. It was such a testimony to their love. No matter how bad Brian gets, Justin knows what they truly mean to each other. And finally, it culminates in him calling Brian on his shit: “Because it’s all your romantic bullshit, Brian. You bought this house, you bought this fireplace, you bought the fucking firewood. You bought the Christmas tree, and the lights, and you bought these fucking rings. I never asked you for any of this. Never.” BRILLIANT. Totally. Completely. Brilliant.
I can’t seem to find the words to convey how deeply emotional the exchange of rings was. Again, I want to quote it all. The depth of their love just amazes me. Yes, there is pain. No, not everything will always be perfect. But through it all, you always bring us back to the undeniable truth. The strength of their love for each other. The fact that they are now wearing the rings, and that it came to be in an angsty, desperate, painful moment with just the two of them, as opposed to a lush ceremony with tuxes, flowers and a crowd of friends and family is so totally fitting for them. I’m not sure I would believe it if it happened any other way.
Thank you, once again, for staying true to character and giving us a story that totally captures the love that is Brain and Justin!!!
