I think that long distance/separation is not a problem only for Brian. True, when he was in LA Justin was working, having, sex, being "successful", but he didn't look particularly happy. So much so that we see him calling Brian in the middle of a Hollywood orgy (and Brian taking his call in the middle of a backroom blow-job!).
YESYES. As put so brilliantly by Xie, that just didn't work. As much as they loved and missed each other, that long distance thing with all the awkward silences, just didn't work for them. Brian's always been about meaningful looks, and actions than words, which is hard to do over the phone.
Both of them work better, have more fun and are happier when they are together. So why put themselves through the misery of being apart? Yes, some wonderful writers make the separation an integral part of their stories, and they make them work brilliantly, because they accept CL's notion that Justin needs to be in NY to thrive as an artist and become independent. But I think that if he can do these things while being with Brian (this will be your challenge for the sequel, Xie!), he might actually do them better. And it would cut down significantly on unnecessary angst.
YESYESYES. I am all for cutting out unnecessary angst. And while the idea of Justin being in NY for work makes sense, the way C/L set him there, does not. Why the fuck shouldn't they be growing up and living and working, and loving at the same time. Together.
I also like how this story deals - and possibly will deal more - with the question of home
OMGYES. I should have mentioned that earlier. I love that Justin mentioned feeling like the only place he's ever truly felt at home, was the manor. Justin hasn't really had a home since season 1. Early season 5 was the first time I think he felt like he was "home". In that Brian asked him to live there. Finally asked. It wasn't about neccessity cos there was nowhere else to go.
But then of course, that all went to shit by 507. I'm glad you kept the house Xie. I like to think that the house is their canon future.
