I honestly think they are true!love, Princess Bride true love, and I also believe that doesn't have to be stupid and cloying and co-dependent. I believe that for people for whom that happens, it's important and real and makes them grow into the people they are meant to be. It's not silly romanticism or soap opera-ism. I think these two can be together credibly in fiction without weakness or unhealthy dependency, and still be really THEMSELVES only when they're together.
